Trump declared his intention to run for the presidency again in November and has continued to attack DeSantis.
Donald Trump said Saturday that he would not use the nickname “Meatball Ron”, to describe Ron DeSantis (a potential rival for the Republican presidential nomination) in 2024.
The former president stated in a Truth Social post that it would be inappropriate to use the term “meatball” as a moniker. This was described as referring both to DeSantis’ appearance and connotations to his Italian heritage.
Trump used the term casually while calling the Florida governor “Shutdown Ron”, a reference to the restrictions the governor imposed at the start of the coronavirus epidemic, according to the New York Times.
Trump declared his bid to be president again in November. He has since made numerous attacks on DeSantis, calling DeSantis “Ron DeSanctimonious”, and accusing him de playing games by not officially announcing any 2024 presidential ambitions.
Trump posted a message on Facebook earlier this month insinuating that DeSantis had sex with teenage girls. DeSantis replied by saying he doesn’t “spend my time trying to disparage other Republicans.”
Trump tweeted Saturday morning that he would never refer to Ron DeSanctimonious as “Meatball Ron” and that it was inappropriate for him to use “meatball”, as his moniker.
Trump is a well-known personality who uses nicknames to describe opponents. In his post, he also called Jeb Bush “Low Energy” in reference to his opponent. He was reciting the same moniker that he used to identify the former governor of Florida in his 2016 campaign for the Republican nomination.
